What Exactly Is Alternative Medicine?

Traditional Korean Medicine

Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM), while based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has developed its own unique diagnostic and treatment features. For instance, acupuncture techniques such as Sa-am, Tae-guk and Hand Acupuncture are not found in TCM. Experts estimate that 80-90% of acupuncture trigger points are the same in both TKM and TCM, with 10-20% being unique to the Korean discipline.

Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM), which classifies people into four different types - Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin - was developed in Korea in the late 19th century. SCM types are based on the congenital formation of certain organs.  A Taeyangin (TY) type is referenced has strong Lungs and a weak Liver, a Taeumin (TE) type has a strong Liver and weak Lungs, an Soyangin (SY) type has a strong Spleen and weak Kidneys and a Soeumin (SE) type has strong Kidneys and a weak Spleen.  These four constitution types each have their own symptoms and treatments.
Pain Management is considered one of the major benefits of Traditional Korean Medicine. Proponents of acupuncture and herbal medicine define these treatments as safe, reliable and effective ways of eliminating pain.  Many people also choose to have acupuncture as a preventive measure or as an option when they don’t feel well but have not receive a diagnosis of a specific illness by a Western medicine practitioner. TCM acupuncture is described as a holistic form of healing, one that aims to remove the underlying causes of a person’s health problem(s), rather than just suppressing the symptoms.
Traditional Korean medicine has also branched out into cosmetic applications as a safe, effective and natural way to reduce the signs of aging that is not as invasive and "extreme" as plastic surgery. The needles work by improving muscle tone in the face and neck, while also treating internal imbalances that contribute to signs of aging.
Training of Practioners
Oriental Medicine practitioners in Korea undergo a six-year training programme. The curriculum includes Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine as well as Korean Medicine practices. Following graduation from medical college, students are required to sit for a national examination in order to receive their Oriental Medical Doctor’s license. Graduate schools of oriental medicine confer doctoral and master degrees. University affiliated hospitals offer 4- year specialist residency programs for further qualifications.

Treatment Coverage
Many Oriental Medicine treatments, excluding cosmetic treatments, are covered under the Korean National Heath Insurance System. Herbal medication in powder form may be covered but those in liquid form are generally not.

Alternative Medicine: Pros & Cons

Pros

Alternative medicine is based on the use of natural and herbal remedies and on the principle that health can be restored by bringing our body’s energy back into balance and harmony.
  • Body and mind
Alternative therapists focus on treating the whole person, and not just the symptoms of a disease or illness. They believe that mind and body are closely connected and that patient’s emotional and spiritual health is of extreme importance when starting a physical cure. They encourage people to lead a healthy life and concentrate on what has actually caused the disease and led to imbalance.
  • Stress
Stress in an important cause of many health problems and it considerably weakens the immune system. Conventional medicine doesn’t take it much into account when prescribing treatments, while most alternative therapies are instead based on reducing stress and emotional tension, in order to combat illnesses.
  • Prevention
Another great pro of alternative medicine is that it considers prevention as one of the major prerequisites of good health. It teaches patients to focus on preventing illnesses before they occur and encourages them to take constant care of their body and mind.
Contrary to conventional medicine that intervenes only when an illness has developed, alternative medicine uses a preventive and holistic approach and recommends a responsible lifestyle.
  • Medicines
Over-the-counter medicines and antibiotics tend to mistake beneficial bacteria for harmful microorganisms and can therefore considerably damage our intestinal flora. Alternative medicine remedies do not have these harmful effects.
  • Chemicals and toxins
Contrary to conventional medicine, alternative medicine treats patients without overloading them with chemical medications, which usually lead to a buildup of toxins in the human body.

Cons

alternative medicine oil
  • Limited scientific research
Many forms of alternative medicine have not yet been scientifically proved and there are many questions that have not yet been answered. However, there are several studies currently under way, examining the efficacy and safety of certain therapies.
  • Government approval
Most alternative medicine methods are not approved by any governing body and there aren’t any health insurance companies that provide coverage for them.
  • Long-term treatments
Conventional medicine treatments have relatively immediate effects, while alternative medicine therapies require a longer time to heal a problem.
Alternative medicine is focused on treating the cause and eliminating the problem at its source, and thereby needs more time and cannot cure instantly. It also requires patient’s complete dedication, as well as considerable changes in lifestyle habits, which are all long-term commitments.
Hence, alternative medicine cannot have immediate results in most cases.
  • Emergency cases
Alternative medicine cannot intervene in emergency cases, such as car accidents or other circumstances that require immediate pain relief and instant action or surgery.
  • Effectiveness
Some people do not react at all to certain alternative therapies. A healing method that can be useful for one person isn’t necessarily effective for another.
It can, therefore, be very harmful for your health to insist following a therapy without understanding whether it really works for you. You would do yourself only more damage, because you would not cure illness at all.

Reiki

Our bodies are always healing themselves, but Reiki gives a conscious intention to the constant state of healing. It does so by heightening acceptance and awareness of the healing process. As most Eastern medicine systems know, energy is everywhere, reacting from outside and inside with our bodies. Reiki can heal many physical and emotional symptoms while improving peace and well-being overall.

Reiki Has Many Benefits

Reiki is a great way to cut down your stress and improve many aspects of your health. In fact, it's good for countless things. Reiki helps you heal yourself, relieve emotional and physical pain, boost your immune system, and decrease your feelings of tension and anxiety. It also develops your inner knowledge and allows you to feel more in control of your own life.

Reiki Is Spiritual

Contrary to some beliefs, Reiki is not a religious practice but a spiritual one. It's an ancient form of energetic healing from Japan, and it's an ideal way to cut down on stress and boost your overall quality of life. Online psychic readings can help you pinpoint areas where you can do this. Unseen energy flows through all living things, and Reiki uses this to heal.
REIKI.INFORMATION2

The Medical Community Is Embracing Reiki

This alternative kind of healing is finding a home in many mainstream medical establishments. Many in the medical community have begun to accept Reiki. Hospitals and doctor's offices are also starting to incorporate Reiki into the therapy they offer.

The Person Receiving Reiki Also Controls It

The person who channels the Reiki does not cure the person who receives the treatment. In fact, the person receiving treatment cures him or herself. This is because the person receiving the Reiki takes the amount of energy needed. This is not done through the conscious mind but a higher level that knows what's best. This part decides how to use the Reiki energy as well. As a result, the person channeling Reiki energy does not control it and so can't cause harm. Reiki even has a built-in protection system against negative energy.

Reiki Is Unlimited

Universal energy springs from a limitless source. Reiki, therefore, doesn't cut the energy supplies of the person who channels it. Reiki functions on a spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical level, and you can give yourself treatments with it. A psychic phone reading can help you find what needs to heal.

Reiki Covers the Whole Body

Reiki promotes healing and has beneficial effects on the body. This includes not only physical symptoms but also gives you relaxation, peace, well-being, and security. This is possible because a full Reiki treatment covers all organs, glands, and main energy centers of your body. Reiki functions in harmony with other types of treatment, so you can use it along with other therapies.
Reiki is a powerful source of healing that has many benefits and uses, even along with other therapies in many medical practices today. As an unlimited form of spiritual healing energy, Reiki can improve your overall health in many ways.

Reflexology

Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a pseudoscientific system of zones and reflex areas that purportedly reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Unani Medicine: Know more !

The Unani system originated in Greece and was introduced by Arabs and Persian around 11th century in India. It was laid by Hippocrates in late 460-377 BC. It is based on the classical four humours as Phlegm, blood, yellow bile and black bile. Health is thus a state of the body in equilibrium with the humours. With extra commitments of restorative astuteness from different parts of the Middle East and South Asia, Unani solution came to be referred to likewise as Arabian, or Islamic prescription.

Benefits of Qigong

The many benefits of qigong that are still being widely studied include preventing joint injuries, reducing stress, and balancing hormone levels, among others.

Muscle Loosening

As you age, your flexibility begins to suffer, which can lead to less willingness to be physically active, thus making the problem even worse. When you practice qigong, however, you will be increasing the range of motion in your joints, which can help to reduce inflammation and boost your mobility and quality of life.

Strengthen Nerves

Studies have found that this type of exercise, along with tai chi, is particularly good for treating the autonomic nervous system. The philosophical and physical elements of this exercise are all centered on increasing the flow of energy and information through the body. Neurotransmitter levels can balance, microcirculation can increase, and more blood flowing to the brain and nervous system centers will improve performance.

Vascular Function

Having sluggish blood is terrible for energy levels and also increases your risk of certain cardiovascular disease. It has been shown that using qigong can improve the function of your vascular system, speeding up the flow of blood between critical organs, cutting down on inflammation, and ensuring that resources and oxygen are delivered smoothly throughout the body.

Joint Injury

If you have suffered a joint injury, a surgery, or suffer from arthritis, this may be one of the best exercises for you to adopt. It is a low-impact practice, which will prevent re-injury, but it is also dynamic and stimulating for the tissues in your joints, which can speed the healing process.

Hormone Balance

Research on qigong has shown that regular practice is able to increase the production of sex hormones, such as testosterone in men and estrogen in women. This is good for normal bodily function, but also important if you experience a drop in your sex drive as you age.

Stress Levels

Stress and anxiety can be deadly, but using this relaxing form of exercise can measurably reduce your stress hormone levels of cortisol and adrenaline in your body. This will cut down on bodily inflammation and protect against certain chronic diseases.

Mental Clarity

The meditative aspects of this practice will provide you with mental clarity, increased powers of concentration, and focus, and a lower risk of neurodegenerative disease.

Qigong & qi

It is the ancient medicinal practice that is 2,000 years old. It is defined as the mind-body-spirit practice that opens the meridians and helps enhance our ability to feel the Life force in the physical world. This healing technique involves meditation, controlled breathing and the movement exercises. Thus, it helps in increasing fluid movement and builds the awareness on how body moves through space.

Shiatsu Massage| Finger Pressure

Shiatsu is an ancient healing art that we borrow from Japan. It's based
on the meridian system of energy. So these are pathways that run
throughout the body similar to acupuncture. It's older than acupuncture
and came before needles were invented. Shiatsu actually means "finger
pressure" in Japanese and finger pressure is a big part of the work, as
well as applying pressure with the palms and elbows, and knees and feet
to free up the energy flow and create as much balance as possible.
