Traditional Chinese medicine is a worldwide recognized medical practice which has its root dates back for more than 2500 years. The Chinese Materia Medica is a pharmacological reference book for Chinese medicine practitioners. The traditional Chinese herbal remedy Artemisia annua which has been used in China for almost 2000 years is found to be effective against malaria and could prevent almost one million deaths annually from severe malaria.

Naturopathic medicine is an alternative treatment method which applies natural therapies. Naturopathy is based on the treatment which involves providing the suitable conditions so that the natural self-healing properties of the body gets optimized. Naturopathic diagnosis focuses on identifying the underlying causes of disease, while naturopathic therapies are supported by research drawn from peer-reviewed journals from many disciplines. Naturopathic physicians mainly focus on prevention of disease, assessment of risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and then make appropriate interventions to prevent illness.

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine which has its origin at the end of 18th century by a German physician. The Philosophy of homeopathy says that good health is based on the balance of vital force and the imbalance in those vital forces causes disease. The treatment procedure in homeopathy includes providing of medicine based on the symptoms of the patients rather than providing medicine for the particular disease. Homeopathic medicine is effective in stimulating the immune system to develop resistance rather than killing germs directly. Homeopathic medicine is economical, safe, non- allergic, heal faster, the dosage is given in minimal amount and removes toxins from the body.

Ayurveda has its origins in the Vedic culture of India which is a natural healing system that is 5000 years old. The terminology Tri-Dosha describes that human beings are part of nature in which three fundamental energies that govern our inner and outer environment. The Ayurveda describes that the medicine is divided into eight components. Ayurvedic practitioners approach diagnosis by using the five senses. Ayurveda has paved a way to treat Alzheimer's disease which is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by severe memory loss. Several ayurvedic medicinal plants and their constituents treat Alzheimer's disease effectively. In recent years, few well-known pharmaceuticals have started investing in Ayurvedic medicine in European and several Asian countries because of its increased usage.

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine which is prepared exclusively from medicinal herbs and plants. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) estimation, around 80% of the population is some Asian and African countries use herbal medicine for primary health care as it is more economical. The Herbal treatment method is also been used as remedies for chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, asthma and end-stage renal diseases. Herbal remedies are of increasing demand in European countries. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 25% of modern drugs used in the United States have been derived from plants. It is estimated that 11% of the total 252 drugs found in essential medicine list of WHO are exclusive of plant origin.
